Every trip to the library results in a lagniappe: a benefit, a treat, a little unexpected something extra.
Wednesday night, I sat in the library finishing the last ten pages of Emma thirty minutes before closing time. Why? Well, it was overdue after multiple check outs and I really needed to return it. (and pay my fine)
Have you ever tried to read an Austen novel under pressure? It is not easy, let me tell you. Ten pages of an Austen novel is like reading fifty or more pages of my usual fluff. First, I tried to finish at the barbeque restaurant. Silly me-- Emma is just too highbrow for barbeque.
The peace and quiet of the library did the trick though with time to spare. With Emma returned safely, what to read next? One of my TBR books at home? No, of course not, I grabbed the fifth Percy Jackson for an easy fun read. Then glanced at the case of new books... just in case... and there was my lagniappe!!
SQUEE!!! The thirteen book in the Wheel of Time Series came out and I didn't even know it! Woot! Woot! |
Naturally, in my excitement, I couldn't locate my library card-- then realised with dread that I didn't have my library card. Yikes! That is what changing purses will do for you! Before panic set it, Lola the Librarian came to the rescue by checking it out to me on her card. Whew!
I love the fifty-two page prologue of this book! I love lagniappes! And I love Lola the Librarian!
Have any books sneaked up on you lately?
I just found this series and have just started the first one. Thirteen books to read? oh. my. goodness. I had no idea, but I do feel like the great book cosmos has rewarded me for hanging tough with Emma!
ReplyDeleteToo exciting-- I hope you like it! Yes, 13 books and one more on the way but how lucky to just now find the series-- no waiting for books! It was sometimes years and years between books!
ReplyDeleteI haven't reread the series since before the last 4 or so books but I've had the urge the last year and you are making it worse-- that and the new book coming out. News books always make me want to reread the whole shebang.
I have a massive pile of books at home that I have bought but I still can't resist checking books out from the library too!
ReplyDeleteDid you enjoy Emma? I read it over the summer and whilst I did enjoy it, I thought it was too long and not as good as Pride & Prejudice.
Sam: Yes, I enjoyed it more than I did years ago-- my favorites are P&P and Persuasion though. I do want to watch the latest Emma miniseries, I missed it when it was on back in the spring.
ReplyDeleteEmma was a readalong at Mrs.BG and Tracy just posted her thoughts about the book this week-- all the commenters seemed to favor P&P over Emma.
P&P read along!
ReplyDeleteI can totally understand not being able to resist book 13. In fact as soon as @BrandonSandrson said on Twitter that he had sent the book for proofreading at Tor early last year, I had to go and reread the whole 12 book before this one came out, and boy did I cut it close; my copy arrived in the mail 3 days before I was done with book 12
ReplyDeleteWelcome, Dadrocant! Always fun to meet another WoT fan. Tracy, one of my co-bloggers, is reading them for the first time right now!
ReplyDeleteI've reread the series several times but not since the last 4 or 5 came out-- but I do plan to reread them all again after book 14.
I'm opposite-- I always read the new one first then I immediately read all the prior books in order. I did the same with the Potter series.
did you like book 13? I loved it but I think they are all fabulous.
Btw, I liked your comments on the dystopian lit/sci-fi post over at the dork review blog-- I rarely visit that blog but that post caught my eye. Especially liked when you pointed out that 451 had originally been published in a sci/fi mag.
