Jillian at Random Ramblings is hosting a new weekly meme called Top Ten Picks. Each week there will be a different category featured. I haven't participated in any memes yet but couldn't resist this topic and wondered if I could limit myself to ten. After jotting down series all day, I can safely say that it is impossible to limit myself to ten. So I may have a few honorable mentions. ;)
In attempting to narrow my list, these are the series that I reread.
Top Ten Beloved Book Series
1. Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien
2. Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan
3. Anne of Green Gables Series by L. M. Montgomery
4. Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis
5. Shannara Series by Terry Brooks
6. Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowling
7. Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice
8. Wizard of Oz Series by L. Frank Baum
9. Earth Children Series by Jean Auel
10. Time Quintet by Madeleine L'Engle
Here are my other favorite series. These are series that I enjoy tremendously and keep up with (or have finished) but may not reread. Time will tell if any are upgraded to beloved status.
Honorable Mentions
1. Fablehaven Series by Brandon Mull
2. Xanth Series by Piers Anthony
3. Repairman Jack Series by F. Paul Wilson
4. Pendergast Series by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
5. Sigma Force Series by James Rollins
6. Uglies Series by Scott Westerfeld
7. Tunnels Series by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams
8. Scarecrow Series & Seven Wonders Series by Matthew Reilly
9. Hunger Games & Underland Chronicles by Suzanne Collins
10. Keys to the Kingdom Series by Garth Nix
And I haven't even mentioned series by Dan Brown, Holly Black, Kathleen McGowan, Angie Sage, Anne McCaffrey, Mercedes Lackey, Tad Williams.... oh, the list goes on and it pains me to omit anyone. How did Jillian do it? She is a better woman than I am!
Note: The photo is borrowed from Jillian. Isn't it wonderful? Jillian always posts the most beautiful photos.
I looove your picks, and that you added the honorable mentions. Like you, I actually had a very difficult time just writing down ten, but I knew I had to do it, haha. I also loved the Shannara and Time Quintet series!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for the 'better woman' comment, even though this is a false statement! haha. And, I know a lot of bloggers say this to each other all the time, but I can't say it enough! I really genuinely love your blog -- so many interesting & unique insights about so many different things!
:) By the way, you can put your link on the Mr. Linky on my original blog post to add yours!
Thanks for the compliments, Jillian. I'm am so thankful that DeLynne is co-blogging with me. She is a great writer and always has interesting and unique posts.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is one of my favorites too. I love the variety of topics and the beautiful photos. where do you find them? I use google images but never find any as cool as yours.
What a relief that you found it difficult to just choose ten! heehee
I did get the linky to work, I think.
Lesa
Yes, De Lynne also has very interesting insights!
ReplyDeleteThe photos, I usually get from weheartit.com :) There's a couple of tumblrs full of these kinds of pictures that I also like. I usually put the sources of the pics on the post, or link the image themselves.

ReplyDeleteLesa, you weren't kidding when you said you had trouble doing ten! LOL! You ended up finding a way to do twenty! ;)
As for me, I'm used to limiting myself to lists of three or five, so I confess that my difficulty is being generous enough to name ten! =P
I'm with Enbrethiliel! I would probably only list L'Engle, Evanovich, Ingals, and well, I can't think of another one. PS and thanks for the compliments, ladies. It means a lot coming from such clever people!
ReplyDelete@E---- ;D Actually, I sneaked in twenty two. Lines 8 & 9 of the honorable mentions each have two series listed. Am I stealthy, or what?
ReplyDelete@ DeLynne--- I know your other series. heehee
And aren't you a Narnia fan too? I did consider adding Ingalls to mine-- it was a childhood favorite. Drat--- forgot about the Little Women Series-- used to love that.
Lesa
Little women series.. aw man. I loved that!

ReplyDeleteSigh! Well, there's no getting around it, Lesa. Now you have to write a follow up post with ten more "Didn't make the list in time" series! LOL!
Hey Lesa! It is hard to stop at 10 once you really start thinking about books you love/must get/must read! LOL
ReplyDeleteYou and I shared two series. Isn't it wonderful to have SO many choices?
I have wanted to read the Wheel of Time series but never did get started. I did start the Sword of Truth series but the books are so long I prefer audio. That is how I read/listened to Harry Potter - all audio.
You might consider the Monday What are you reading? Meme.
@E-- Neh, I'll just edit and add an addendum-- heehee--- and did you check out Martha's picks? She couldn't list just 10 either.
ReplyDelete@Martha Yes, I noticed that. I read your Malory series too. The wheel of time rivals LoTR for me but the books are massive. I think there are 12 books so far with two more expected. Hope you find it on audio sometime.

I do so love lists! I may have to start participating in this event -- it's too irresistible.
ReplyDeleteHi Rose! Yes, give it a go and visit Jillian's blog. She started this meme and has a great blog--one of my faves. This was my first meme to try and it was a ton of fun. Can't wait to see what the next topic will be!
ReplyDeleteLesa
Those are great book choices! A lot of the books I have enjoyed are on your lists, which makes me want to check out the others as well. :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow! You are the first person I've found who is also a Kathleen McGowan fan!!! I LOVE HER BOOKS!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour lists are great....I'm going to have to check out a couple of the books but most of them I've read - how cool!
found you through the blogger hop...following you now =]
Hi Stacy! Oh yes, McGowan's books are great--- can't wait for the next one. I only know one other person who reads them-- and I recommended them to her since she is into Mary Magdelene.
ReplyDeleteI'm following you too. So cool to meet a kindred spirit--- Felt an intant connection glancing through your archives---saw several archived posts I must comment on--- so get ready!
