Books in my mother's house

My mother loves books in the kitchen...

...on a cake stand...

...by the couch...

...near the back door...

...and  under a lamp....

Celebrating Autumn with Books!

Yeehaw tookie tookie, bloggy friends! Lesa here! I can't tell you how thrilled I am to see the back of September-- it is my one busy and hectic month at school.

And I'm plumb giddy that autumn has finally arrived. Aren't you? Just think: cooler weather to play outside and work on outdoor projects, festivals, fairs,  fall foliage, Halloween, fewer bugs. Yep, autumn is a wonderful thing!

And don't fret bookish ones, I'm not so giddy that I've mixed up which of my blogs this post is for SO one of the loveliest things about autumn are chilly mornings to cozy up with a cuppa and a good book.

Can I get an 'Amen, sister!'.

Thank you... thank you.. see my wits are intact. Hey,  I heard that snicker.

I do have wits... I do... I do! Silly wits but wits nonetheless... nonethemore either but I make do. And did I mention I was giiid-deee?

Okay, okay,  sillies are contained... back to autumn and books.

Isn't this absolutely loverly...

I've shared bookish decor vignettes before but this seasonal beauty may be my favorite.

Are you excited about autumn? What are some of your favorite autumn activities?

*********************************

Even though September is never a good bloggy month for me due to school, I've  still managed to read some good books and fall into bookish adventures which I hope to share with you soon.

And I even photographed every single bargain book waiting in the wings for a BBB feature-- now that was a major coup right there. So am I ahead of the BBB game? No, after my photo frenzy,  I went wild at the county library book sale... tsk tsk tsk.

Right now, I'm reading three books.  A slow savor of Wind In The Willows and The Scarlett Letter and.... the latest Pendergast thriller!! Not sure if I can savor the Pendergast thriller. It is getting good so I may have to gobble it up!

Happy autumn reading days, book besties! Enjoy and savor!  (but if you gobble, that is okay too, I understand completely)

edit: Ha-- my wits were wacky last night. I accidently posted this on one of Izzy's blank drafts. So, if you were confused earlier by the  'posted by Isabella' , that was just an error on my part. She bears no blame for this silly post.

Books As Decor: Thinking Outside the Bookshelf

Recently, I posted links to 'how to make beautiful book covers' tutorials that I discovered on two terrific decor/diy blogs.

The consensus from readers:

What lovely bookcovers! But I'm just not the crafty type!

Well, bloggy bookworm friends, here is book decor idea that ab-so-dang-lutely requires no crafting!

The only requirements are old books and an aesthetic eye.  Old books, check. Aesthetic eye... hmm... don't know...

But surely even we can think outside the bookshelf and arrange books in an aesthetically pleasing way.  (not sure about the fork though-- I'd probably place it on a stack of cookbooks but maybe that would be too themey)

Kim at Savvy Southern Style has a penchant for old books and frequently uses them in her decor.  And she doesn't rip the covers off!  Three cheers for Kim!

As a newbie to the Nifty Thrifty Tuesday linky party at Coastal Charm, Kim's books made me feel right at home.  Especially when I saw this:

Two cool old dictionaries and the Complete Shortstories of Somerset Maugham! Have you read any Maugham? I read and liked his Razor's Edge four years ago and would love to find a haul like this.

Can you believe Kim found these at a thrift store for one dollar each! Wow!

Kim, you are officially invited to join in Mrs. BG'a Bargain Book Bonanza linky party anytime!

Since Kim is a decor blogger who decorates with books, I had to ask if she is also a bookworm.

What is your guess? Yea or nay?

I guessed yea but Kim said:

I wish I loved to read, but I don't. My mom is an avid reader and some how that gene was left out of me. I think I took after my dad on that one.

Not a bookworm yet she appreciates the beauty of old books.  And did I mention that she rescues old books.

Did you hear that Restoration Hardware?

Rescue not torture!

Please visit Kim at Savvy Southern Style for more delightful decor ideas.

So what do you think, bookworms? More appealing than pretty bookcovers?

A big thank you to Kim for letting me share her photos and spotlight her blog!

How to Make Beautiful Book Covers Times Two

A few weeks ago while participating with my other blog in the Nifty Thrifty Tuesday linky party hosted by Coastal Charm, I spotted books in three thumbnail links.

Wow! These bloggers featured beautiful bookish decor ideas!   I immediately asked each one if I could share a link/photo with Mrs. BG's readers and all three bloggers graciously gave permission.

The two that I am highlighting today showcased eye catching do it yourself bookcovers with easy to follow tutorials. Please click the links to see more of these bloggers lovely photos and learn how to make your own beautiful book covers. Be sure and let them know you are visiting from Mrs. BG.

Aren't these the prettiest book covers ever!  And so easy to make--  just check out this  book cover tutorial  presented by Judy at DIY by Design.

While you are there, explore some of Judy's other DIY tutorials and decor ideas for inspiration. I love these almost no-sew pillows  and I almost think even I could make them. Just perfect for a sunny reading nook/garden room or reading porch. If only I had a sunny reading nook/garden room or reading porch...

Sherry at The Charm of Home  displayed wonderful vintage look book covers.  These book covers were inspired by the potions lab set in the movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Love it! And much more appealing for us bookworms than the mutilated books offered as objets d'art by Restoration Hardware, don't you think.

To make your own vintage book covers, check out Sherry's book cover tutorial
Looks like a fun  project with easy to follow steps-- easy enough for even the most DIY challenged book lover!

As a little lagniappe for any of you with a predilection for blue and white china (you know who you are), stop by for high tea with Sherry. Beautiful and scrumptious!

Do you or would you ever make book covers?

I plan to try. Lord knows, I love books in all their natural glory (even old ratty books) but these book covers are spectacular! Would certainly add pizazz to my  clutter decor, that's for sure.
