Hi, friends! Apologies for being so late with this week's BBB. This is the third week of summer break and I have already lost track of days! And if you think I've been wallowing and relaxing, think again. Right now, I'm plumb tuckered out from a general frenzy of activity due to unexpected aggravating news that I will share soon. But for now, on with Bargain Book Bonanza...
Have I mentioned before that my spouse is also a bookworm?
My hub, Jim, is an eclectic reader too except in the nonfiction category. He reads it all but his favorites are anything relating to his multitude of special interests, humor and biographies/memoirs of people in the arts.
But my man isn't a fictional lost cause-- he read and loved The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings before we met. Good thing that... since he would've had to hit the road otherwise. Seriously.
The guy had potential so I decided to keep him. And mybadgering faith paid off! A few years ago, he started reading a few of my science thrillers. But the piece de resistance: Jim read all the Harry Potter books! Now if only Jillian's boyfriend would put a little bug in his ear regarding a certain bracelet...
Since Jim is a bookworm and has always bought the most books between us (in my pre-BBB days, that is), it really tickled me last week when he asked: What are you going to do with all your books?
I said: Read them!
Duh, what did he think I was going to do with them!
Of course, I conveniently missed the gist of the question which was book storage.
And guess who found book bargains last week? Yep, my good ol' weak-willed hub. Only two books though so I guess the house won't burst at the seams.

Jim found these at the library's neverending sale. He was particularly excited about the Brian Wilson memoir since the Beach Boys are his second favorite childhood band after the Beatles.
How good was the bargain?
Two hardbacks for a dollar! Can't beat that!

Yay! Nice to meet Mr. Lesa :D You are very lucky to have a partner that reads!
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's always a plus to have a significant other be a reader, but not exactly required ;) My bf and I have been together for 4 years now and have been friends for 5, and I remember one of the first things he told me he liked about me was that I read more than he did! Haha. He's a huge reader too and LOVES scifi! So it's always nice because he puts up with me when I am craving for some bookstore air or something.
It's also nice to watch movies that are from books - he understands my need to nitpick! LOL
My hubby and I don't share reading, we don't share the same tastes, and we don't even like the same tv shows.
ReplyDeleteI haven't met any guy who enjoys my favorite reads. I have met a guy who enjoyed some of my favorite movies (My Fair Lady, Sound of Music, etc.), and to be honest, I found it a bit annoying!
I personally like that I have something of my own. My DH doesn't ask about what I am reading, and I don't ask about soccer. So. You know.
I guess we have so much else going on, this is my respite. MINE.
Hi Lesa,
ReplyDeleteHow nice to meet Jim! Aren't those library book sales the best?
My BFH (best friend husband) doesn't read much, but he loves history and watching videos/dvd's/and t.v. shows about all of that; if he reads a book it has to do with history.
He doesn't mind my reading; I'm on the loveseat with a book, he's on the couch, and we are in the same room. It works for us!
I've been working on my own history/geneology stuff a lot right now, and that's why I haven't been participating much. I love to come by and see what's up though.
Have a wonderful week,
Kathy M.
Thanks so much for sharing your opinions and the reading habits of your partners!
ReplyDeleteJillian: How cool that your guy is a bookworm too! Reading wasn't a dealbreaker when I was a young adult but now that I'm spoiled I think it might be. You are right there are benefits to being with someone who appreciates and gets the reading thing even if they read different genres.
Leslie: There may be another reason it didn't work out with the musical loving guy! Heehee (Not that there is anything wrong with that) hahahaahhha
I agree it is crucial (at least for my mental well being) to have interests of one's own. Reading is fundamental though for me so I'm glad my hub is into books-- At least he isn't offended when I sit and read in a guitar store or any other boring place he drags me too. You are lucky your DH keeps his hobbies to himself!!
Kathy: your comments are always appreciated so stop by anytime. Sounds like you two are a cozy couple. Jim watches a lot of tv too and I used to love reading on my end of the couch back in our one couch and no chairs days.
